Hitoyoshi Kuma is a hot-spring village with hot springs scattered across the area around the Kuma River. Also called “hot springs of beauty,” the water is soft and smooth. The water is also said to be effective against scrapes, nerve pain, and gastrointestinal disorders. The history of Hitoyoshi Kuma’s hot springs has been recorded in ancient documents saying that long ago, in the Muromachi period, Sagara lords bathed in the springs. It seems that military commanders in those days also healed their war injuries and fatigue by soaking in the hot springs.
The hot spring facilities in Hitoyoshi Kuma provide a variety of ways to enjoy the hot springs ranging from retro-style public bathhouses that allow bathers to experience history, to things like open-air baths, large public baths, and hot springs with a view, all depending on which facility you use.
